House of Massive
From a Shopify template to a custom headless store on MedusaJS and Sanity.
Challenge
House of Massive sells high-end, made-to-order furniture. Many orders start as a conversation about size, material and finish.
Their Shopify store worked, but the design was limited to what the theme allowed. The brand wanted a storefront that looked like their furniture, not like a template.
They also wanted to own the whole store: the product data, the checkout and the code. They contacted us directly on LinkedIn.
Solution
Built from their design. Their team supplied the wireframes and the visual design. We built the storefront from those files, so the brand decides how every page looks.
MedusaJS and Sanity, each doing one job. We started from Tinloof's open-source Sanity and Medusa starter and changed it until nothing of the starter theme was visible. Medusa holds products, options, prices and orders. Sanity holds the gallery and the product stories, so the team edits them without a developer.
Buy now or ask for a quote. Each product has several options pulled from Medusa. Customers can pay by card through Stripe, or send a quote request for a custom piece.
A safe move off Shopify. We backed up the Shopify store first, then moved the catalogue with a migration script. We mapped the old Shopify URLs to the new pages with redirects, so existing links and search results still land on the right product.
The storefront runs on Vercel and the Medusa backend on DigitalOcean. The build took about two months. We still work with House of Massive on new features and improvements.
